# Accessibility

> How accessible the NOMAE app and website are, what we know doesn't work yet, and how to tell us.

Updated 7 October 2026

NOMAE should work for everyone who trains, including people who use a screen reader, larger text, reduced motion or no sound. This statement covers the NOMAE app for iPhone and iPad, the NOMAE app for Android, the tracker and nomae.com.au.

## Our standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, applied to mobile apps, and to support the accessibility features built into iOS, iPadOS and Android. NOMAE **partially conforms**: most of the app meets the standard, and the exceptions we know about are listed below.

## What works today

- **VoiceOver (iPhone and iPad).** Buttons and controls have spoken labels. The week dial, muscle map, calendar and charts have spoken summaries, and set rows read their reps and weight.
- **Live rep counts without looking.** During a tracked set, VoiceOver and TalkBack announce each counted rep when the voice coach isn't already saying it. Each counted rep also gives a haptic tap.
- **Voice coach.** Rep counts, rest countdowns, what's next and new records, spoken through headphones in a male or female voice.
- **Larger text.** Text follows the system text size, and Home rearranges at the largest accessibility sizes.
- **Reduce Motion.** On iPhone and iPad, animations are removed or replaced with simple fades when Reduce Motion is on.
- **Contrast.** Body text is cream on near-black at better than 15:1, and grey secondary text is at least 4.5:1.
- **Touch targets.** Main buttons are 52 points tall, round icon buttons have a 44-point target, and every control is at least 24 points.
- **Orientation.** On iPad, the app works in every orientation and in Split View.
- **No tracker needed.** Everything except live rep counting works by hand, so the tracker is never the only way to log a set.
- **Your data out.** Your history exports as CSV or JSON, so you can use it in other tools.

## Known limitations

- Large figures (the live rep count, weights, timers and totals) on iPhone and iPad are drawn at a fixed size and don't grow with the system text size. Their spoken labels are complete.
- The set table and the calendar cap text at a maximum size, so the columns still fit.
- Orange text on orange-tinted chips (live and selected states) is about 4:1, just under the 4.5:1 the standard asks for.
- Some decorative marks (row chevrons, idle status dots and days later in the month on the calendar) are below 3:1 contrast. Each is paired with text or isn't needed to use the app.
- The voice coach plays only through headphones, never the phone's speaker.
- The Android app has spoken labels on its icon buttons and follows the system font size, but hasn't yet been tested end to end with TalkBack, and doesn't yet reduce motion when Android's animation setting is off.
- Mounting the tracker means placing it by hand on a machine. The app guides each step with text and a picture of where it goes.
- nomae.com.au aims for WCAG 2.2 AA but hasn't been independently audited.

We're working through these, and update this statement when something changes.

## How we checked

NOMAE assessed the app and website itself, against WCAG 2.2 Level AA and Apple's and Google's accessibility guidance, most recently on 7 October 2026. There has been no independent audit yet.

## Tell us about a barrier

If something in NOMAE doesn't work for you, or you need information in another format, email [support@nomae.com.au](mailto:support@nomae.com.au) or use Settings → Send feedback in the app. Tell us what you were trying to do, and which phone and accessibility features you use. A person will reply within five business days, and we'll tell you what we will do about it.

If you aren't satisfied with our response, you can contact the [Australian Human Rights Commission](https://humanrights.gov.au/complaints), which handles complaints under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
